Phonosonics Rocksteady…. You know we put the horns on top Then we come in with the two tonne one drop Bass line pump, make my chest go thump Take the voice up high With melodies light as a feather But the groove is a heavy weight.
2.
Verse 1 Heard a man sing a song today about puppy love I guess that's a love of some kind But I want a love like an old stray dog, a tough love I want a love that's seen some hard times So thank you for understanding That I am through pretending So go 'head and be demanding Chorus: Cause I want you to take me for granted Girl give me all the love I can stand I'd love for you to be my old lady Cause I could love you 'til I'm an old man V2 I know startin' out we thought we'd count days of bliss Most days we just get by But I'd rather count bills on the table dishes in the sink Those are still days that you're mine Chorus It can't always be sweet nothings Sometimes you're gonna yell But I know I'll be in heaven Even when you're giving me hell... Chorus
3.
Well its a long walk home I suppose We could call a cab but I would rather we don't You see, I've come to love the calming bite Of your hands in mine as we walk through the night Oh I ain't one, one for wasting time But it feels so good with you by my side I can't waste my life Watching the best parts slip on by Missing the golden hours Cause the goal's romanticized And it might sound odd I don't care if we get there at all I'm telling you I'd rather get there slow I could count on one hand the times I raced to the finish and it eased my mind I ain't about to blow this one You're all I need; my resolution Oh when the clouds roll in and the light has lost its shine I'd stand in the rain if we could leave it all behind I can't waste my life Watching the best parts slip on by Missing the golden hours Cause the goal's romanticized And it might sound odd I don't care if we get there at all I'm telling you I'd rather get there slow
4.
La Dama, La Isla Eres mi querida nena No importa vial idioma The quiero amar con la lengua Oh la dama, la Isla Chorus: Cause the tail of your love is an endless verse And life is short so we can’t rehearse When I wake in the morn I get my coffee first And you kiss my face before I go to work Anything you want baby say the word Just come with me and you will see Two hearts will correspond and beat in one harmony La Dama la Isla Tu est ma Cherie amoureuse Mon ame extends votre Seul voix Je veux savoir pourqoui mais je ne sais pas Oh la Dama la Isla Chorus
5.
Right when you knew you loved me You should've picked up the phone Before...I set my mind to moving on You know that spark don't last forever If you thought that we should be together That's when you should've called You had me on the hook, yeah But never on your mind and you were the one said "never gonna happen baby" now you're steady tying up my line Today your flaws are all that I remember But there was a time I found you sweet and clever and that's when you should've called Ad libs Rap: I used to love someone But she couldn't make up her mind And that can make a person thoughtless and a little unkind And she used to say mean stuff to me like: "you're not the kinda man I'm gonna love you're the kinda man I'm gonna leave" So I left And I got to moving on, and I was feeling pretty good Then she calls me outta the blue and I'm like It's too little too late You just want a port for stormy weather But back in the day I wanted to you forever and that's when you should've called.

21 Forever 03:40
So here we are again Talking from a distance on the phone Seems not so long ago that I was at your door Saying I'm late, I'm drunk, I'm sorry but I had nowhere else to go But we won't talk about a pedestal Cause I know it ain't where you wanna be Perfection's not the kind of thing that I am looking for Plus there must be a little bit wrong with you If you're willing to be with me Chorus: So come and run, run Oh Run come chase the night with me But you and I We can't stay 21 forever But we can still have this night together And life began to pass me by As we grew up and did all the things that we were planning on This speed's a funny thing that I can't get around The more I chase a moment dear the more I find it's gone But we won't talk about our love you know It's getting late and we've got so much speedy work to do But each workin day goes by I find a longing for That melancholic slowness of one punch-drunk night with you Chorus Now I wonder to myself Did you ever write that book of poetry? Maybe I don't wanna know it's better in my head Cause there's a line about you longing for the life you spent with me Chorus
8.
Rebecca 02:33
Chorus Rebecca, the only thing this groove is missing Is the shaking of your skinny behind Rebecca I've been waiting and working And I just can't get you off my mind Hey, man who's that girl with the microphone Talking bout stop the war Hey, man who's that girl with the megaphone Talking about feed the poor. Girl you look like an activista O quizas una feminista And if so que este lista Pa la gente va a resista Cause I've been looking all over town For a woman that don't let the man get her down And I like the way you're leaning if you know what I mean And even with your love you give it so liberally Chorus Hey (ooo) Je l'ai be aucoup voyagé And everywhere I go I take the thought of loving you and yes I know that Hey (ooo) Je ne vais pas oublier les mots importants que Manuel el médico loco me dijò que Hay que recordar Donde està la coràzon La dejé en Santa Clara con Taimí y F lora? O la llegue està contigo right now, ahora cause There was no music til I heard the sound When you said hey darling I want you around And you've saved me from myself so miraculously From here on out baby it's just you and me Chorus Pick it up now Oh yeah Rebecca I'd know you by any other name whoah Rebecca

Me and Mrs. Jones We got a thing goin' on We both know that it's wrong But it's much too strong To let it go now We meet every day at the same café Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there Holding hands, making all kinds of plans While the jukebox plays our favorite songs Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones We got a thing goin' on We both know that it's wrong But it's much too strong To let it go now We gotta be extra careful That we don't build our hopes up too high 'Cause she's got her own obligations And so, and so do I Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones We got a thing goin' on We both know that it's wrong But it's much too strong To let it go now Well, it's time for us to be leaving It hurts so much, it hurts so much inside Now she'll go her way and I'll go mine Tomorrow we'll meet The same place, the same time Me and Mrs., Mrs. Jones Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Jones

New Again 04:24
You watch him board that train, cross the River He saves up all his love, but he won’t deliver He’s so tired, when he looks at them, all he can say is: “I’m doing the best I can” Double life for life even if he was willing is just enough to break a man The road to hell Is paved with good intentions Well then this dead end road he’s walking down Must be paved with old conventions He says “I don’t know just who I want to be But I don’t wanna stay the same. Cause it’s that man gets caught in the Work-a-day Has only his self to blame” Chorus: But I got to believe, it’s not too late To Turn it all back around Make it new again Make it new again You watch him get that look, far off away Before he left the stage, when he used to play Before love, loss, death, taxes and reality But he’s the last one left standing who thinks it’s a privilege to call himself a workin man It ain’t hard to tell He ain’t up for conversation He’s looking back on bar - room melodies Like some glorified salvation He says “I don’t know just how I lost my voice But I know it ain’t really gone And if I push myself to that breaking point I must just break into song” Chorus x 2
11.
Well evidently I was wrong Had my hopes up for way too long I thought I was singing your favourite song But evidently I was wrong Well I guess now this is it All my hopes and dreams gone down a pit You told me that I was full of it Well I guess now this is it All the times, we had together Didn't matter on the weather You were seeing someone better Weren't you? Well evidently I was wrong Had my hopes up for way too long I thought I was singing your favourite song But evidently I was wrong And you know that I will Tell you no lies Baby Good bye

Beautiful Things: I’m up at 6 in the mornin Running underneath the moonlight Then I go off to work all day Come home and write songs all night People ask me like “Why you work so hard? (Work so hard) Ain’t you done enough Ain’t it time to let down your guard?” I wish they would understand I’m trying to fill in the shell of a man But what I wouldn’t give away Just to be content on the day to day Chorus: So from here on out I only ever wanna make beautiful things Til the hurt is gone So from here on o ut I only ever wanna make beautiful things From now on Sure as the sun is shining Sure as the rain does fall And believe me where I come from Baby the rain sure does fall Just as sure people talkin like “IT’S A tough old world (Tough old world) Ain’t the kind of place I’d wanna raise up a little boy or girl” But when the rain come like I said We’ll put a roof up overhead Cause ain’t no storm we can’t weather Making beautiful things together Chorus Bridge – Call and response: Beautiful, beautiful things x 4 Only ever wanna make x3 Ooo Chorus
13.
Worry No Good: Chorus: The worry don’t do me no good no more (repeat) Verse 1: What do you think, says the bald man Who calls himself my boss, “Am I right or wrong?” I said you’re wrong (Wrong) in everyway You’re so wrong, (Wrong) it feels so good to say But then I stop myself I gotta learn to let go Ain’t no use fussing about things that I can’t control Chorus Verse 2: What do you think, says the smart man At the dinner party, “Does that sound right to you?” I said you fool (fool), that’s what you’re told to say You’re such a tool (tool), repeating it every day But then I stop myself I gotta learn to let go Ain’t no use fussing about things that I can’t control Chorus Verse 3: So be cool my man, don’t sweat the traffic If mister man up front needs that space so bad just let him have it Cause we’re all stuck on the road with this type of guy He’ll take the low, you might as well take the high Bridge: And that’s one less inconsiderate motherfucker on the road today And I’m just trying to get by with this Worry in my way Chorus

about

New Again is the long-awaited full-length album from the Phonosonics. Since 2015 this Victoria, Canada-based Rocksteady and Early Reggae revival group has gone from critical darling and indie radio favourite to playing with such legends as the Wailers, Leroy Sibbles and Sister Nancy and features on some of the biggest Reggae radio shows on the planet.

Production began on New Again in late 2018. Giants of the Reggae world, such as Mr. Heptone himself, Horseman, Montreal’s Dr. Watson, and Roger Rivas of the Aggrolites were recruited for guest spots on the record. The original release was slated for mid-2020, but was unfortunately sidelined by the COVID 19 pandemic. To give fans a taste, Beautiful Things was released as a single, which has garnered a quarter-million streams to day. Against considerable odds, the group persevered and completed production in time for a November 2021 release.

New Again showcases the evolution of Phonosonics’ sound. The group began with producer and multi-instrumentalist Spencer Cleave playing all instruments on the recordings, and this album includes one final song in that format. This provides an interesting contrast with the remainder of the album which has a live feel, with some tunes even being tracked live off the floor as a group.

Ned Saric’s steady hand on the drum kit is felt throughout, but particularly on tracks like “Rebecca”, the album’s upbeat ska number. Luis Meneses, the latest addition to the group, brings a fantastic low-end compliment on bass. Co-producer Anthony Shackell adds soaring trumpet lines and contributes his songwriting talent with “Get There Slow”. Aidan Snider brings guitar and vocals to the mix as well as writing and singing lead for “I Was Wrong”. Elle Crossley’s pristine harmonies bring the vintage soul vibe to these Rocksteady classics. Will Lynch’s keyboard virtuosity is particularly felt on tracks like Take Me for Granted.

This is to say nothing of the guest artists on this album: Leroy “Heptone” Sibbles provides a gorgeous rendering of the soul classic “Me and Mrs. Jones”; Roger Rivas of The Aggrolites contributes his amazing keyboard stylings to “La Dama, La Isla”; and Horseman and Dr. Watson round out a Dub Remix of Phonosonics’ debut single with “Dark-Haired Dub”.

All this adds up to an album of classic Rocksteady, Ska and Early Reggae music featuring Reggae greats from around the world. With gorgeous melodies, heavy grooves and a positive message, the Phonosonics want you to know that it’s never too late to turn it all back around, and make it new again.
