Reggae Don't Pay the Rent

by Phonosonics

Does he make you laugh Like I used to? Does he love all The funny little things about you? I've known since you said we were through Some day I'd have to see another kissing you Cause I love you much too much to ignore That I was never any good for you, so Chorus: If he makes you laugh If he does all the little things you need from a man Well, then I guess I'm happy for you I guess I'll move on too I shoulda known... That I'd mess things up (mess things up) I'd want you hear so close but I'd never say I just made a show of pushing you away I know that we're just friends and nothing more Still I can't help my self, girl, I adore you, but Chorus So does he make you laugh? Is he so kind? Does the thought of me just never cross your mind? Then I'll get moving on to my own things I got other roads to travel, other songs to sing Cause I love you much too much to ignore That he has always been the right one for you Chorus
I went and got myself a day job I got bills to pay Can't make no money playing Reggae music Can't find no way Cause the cost of living get so high But I don't see no rich man cry Tell the poor they must get strong And they go get their hustle on Chorus: Cause I'll be on my 9-5 The one drop won't keep my kids alive Cause I'm talking 'bout Friday through Sunday I'll keep you moving those behinds But Monday morning I'm on my grind cause Reggae don't pay the rent Tell me something: If killers and thieves can get parole Can the workin' kind of people get some rent control Chorus

Filled with fat beats, blazing horns, and soulful harmonies, this 5-song EP, entitled "Reggae Don't Pay the Rent" is the follow-up to Phonosonics' celebrated debut single "Between two Headphones/Dark-Haired Lady". Stretching their legs a little, the band comes through with their classic vintage Rocksteady sound, supplemented with some Toots-inspired funky reggae and some classic Jamaican-style ska for an eclectic vibe. This album is at times soulful, at times a bit political, but will always keep you moving. Yet another classic from Canada's Rocksteady Heavyweights.
